In a bold move, Portsmouth Superintendent Dr. Elie Bracy, III hired former newspaper journalist Cherise Newsome to lead the Communications Office for Portsmouth Public Schools. In nearly 3 years, the duo developed a multimedia powerhouse that positively shaped the image of Portsmouth’s public schools as a progressive, urban school division for all families. Using traditional media and digital platforms, the school division engages the community, policymakers and the media in relevant and captivating ways. In this session, you will learn how to: Share key messages with news media, Develop strong Governance Team communications strategies, Build a network of school and community ambassadors, and Grow your digital media footprint. The session includes Q&A with Dr. Bracy and Cherise and a Digital Communications Toolkit for every Governance Team.

A lifelong educator, Dr. Elie Bracy, III serves as Division Superintendent for Portsmouth Public Schools and has more than 20 years of experience as guidance counselor and school administrator. He's been named Superintendent of the Year by Virginia PTA.
