Waynesboro City Schools and Pulaski County Schools have partnered with Radford University's Inclusive Practices Center to enhance and sustain inclusive practice at the school and division level, and increase the successful inclusion of all students with disabilities. This is a two-year initiative funded by the Virginia Board of People with Disabilities. This first year each school used a collaborative team process to assess current practices that support inclusion and then developed an inclusive action plan with two or three measurable goals. Each school-based inclusion team included administrators, general and special educators, family members, students, and other school community members. The second year will include the 3Cs of the project: Culture, Collaboration, and Coaching. The presentation will include a rationale for why these divisions chose to work to build their capacity in inclusive practice, a description of activities to date, our successes, and also our challenges. We will share photographs and examples of assessments, professional development activities, and sample inclusion plans.
