After previously serving other communities as a teacher, administrator and Superintendent, Dr. Aaron Spence has served as Superintendent of Virginia Beach City Public Schools (VBCPS) since June 2014, where he oversees the operation of 86 schools and the education of nearly 67,000 students. As has been the case throughout his 25-year career, Spence leads with his passion for both public education and for providing all students with the best possible opportunities in school. His proven record of success, his commitment to the community in which he grew up, and leadership in the education field both locally and nationally, were key factors in his selection as the 2018 Virginia Superintendent of the Year by the Virginia Association of School Superintendents.
